Well, here we are. The long road is finally here. Everyone Is Tulip. We did it. We’re serializing the book that we’ve been working on for… four years? Five years? I don’t even know at this point.

I suppose we should back up for a moment. Who is this “we” I’m talking about. Allow me to introduce myself. I’m Dave Baker, writer and illustrator of such books as Star Trek Voyager: Seven’s Reckoning, Action Hospital, Fuck Off Squad, Night Hunters, and a few others. I’m the writer behind this comic book you’re about to dive into reading, hopefully.

My creative partner on this project, and many others, is Nicole Goux. This project stems directly from creative discussions and many a late-night debate. She illustrated, co-colored, and lettered this whole damn thing. You might be familiar with her work from such publications as Fuck Off Squad, Shadow of the Batgirl, Jem and the Holograms, and Star Trek: Waypoint.

We’re joined on this project by the colorist and illustrator Ellie Hall. She’s worked on projects in animation mostly, this is her first long-form comics project and she did a great job helping us out on the colors.

So, what exactly is this book? Why are we all here?

Well, I suppose we’re here to discuss our book Everyone Is Tulip.

The book comes out in June, 2021. Published by Dark Horse comics, the graphic novel will be available everywhere.

But, as the world is still wracked by Covid 19, well, the likelihood of us touring extensively is pretty low. So, we decided to serialize the book online in order to try and get the word out about it. Yes, this is a little backwards in that usually creators self-serialize and then sign a publishing deal, however… interesting times call for … interesting measures?

So, what is Everyone Is Tulip about? Well, it is an exploration of the question: “How far would you go to get what you want?” It follows a young girl, Becca, who moves to Los Angeles in the hopes of becoming an actor, however, once she gets here she’s in for far more than she bargained for… she quickly gets sucked up into the high stakes world of YouTube performance art, which, believe it or not, is a real thing.

Our book will chart her journey through the seedy underbelly of Los Angeles, test her convictions, and present her with the ultimate choice…

Are you ready for this story to start? Perfect! Me too. Let’s do it.

Hope you enjoy the fruits of all our hard work.

Your friend,

Davey
